Seven Days NSS Camp

Seven Days NSS Camp

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, successfully organized a seven-day residential camp titled “SAJJAM” at AUP School, Muthukad, with the objective of developing leadership qualities, social responsibility, and community awareness among NSS volunteers. The camp commenced with an ice-breaking session conducted by Sarnam Sir, which helped the volunteers overcome hesitation, improve mutual understanding, and foster team spirit. This session created a positive and energetic atmosphere for the smooth conduct of the camp.

During the camp, several educational and skill-development programs were organized for the volunteers. Sessions on leadership qualities motivated students to become confident, disciplined, and responsible individuals. A cake-making workshop provided hands-on experience and encouraged entrepreneurial thinking and self-employment ideas. In addition, classes on banking and financial literacy enabled the volunteers to understand the importance of savings, financial management, and the role of banking in daily life. One of the major activities of the camp was a survey on women's empowerment conducted in the surrounding locality. NSS volunteers visited nearby households and interacted with women residents to collect information regarding their educational background, employment status, awareness of government welfare schemes, financial independence, and participation in decision-making processes. The survey revealed that although many women recognized the importance of education and self-reliance, there was a lack of adequate awareness about government schemes and skill-development programs. This activity provided the volunteers with valuable exposure to real-life social issues and emphasized the need for empowering women at the grassroots level.

Apart from the survey, the volunteers actively participated in community service activities such as cleaning the school premises and nearby areas. This initiative promoted cleanliness, environmental awareness, and a sense of collective responsibility among the participants. NSS seven-day residential camp “SAJJAM” proved to be highly successful and meaningful. It enriched the volunteers with leadership skills, practical knowledge, social awareness, and a strong sense of service. The camp effectively fulfilled the objectives of the NSS by integrating education, community service, and social empowerment.
