Abnormal Psychology – Open-Ended Module Work
As part of the FYUGP 5 th Semester Open-Ended Module Work in Abnormal Psychology, the Department
of Psychology organized a field visit to the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Chungathara CHC
on 5 October 2026.
A group of 12 third-year Psychology students, accompanied by Ms. Shifa Sherin, Faculty, Department of
Psychology, visited the centre. The group reached Chungathara CHC at 10:00 a.m. by college bus.
The students met Ms. Reshma, Consultant Psychologist, DMHP, and were introduced to the functioning
of the programme.
Mr. Basheer conducted an interactive discussion with the students on the role and objectives of the
District Mental Health Programme, facilities provided, and the functioning of the multidisciplinary team.
The students gained an understanding of the roles of psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals
involved in providing mental health services. They also had an opportunity to observe and understand
the consultation process and the management of individuals seeking psychiatric and psychological care.
The visit provided students with valuable practical exposure to community-based mental health services
and helped them connect the theoretical concepts learned in Abnormal Psychology with their practical
application.
The students concluded the visit and returned to the college at 1:00 p.m.
